There is so much talk these days about which products actually work to help men suffering from a receding hairline. So Does Propecia Work For A Receding Hairline?
Unfortunately, male pattern hair loss is a very common condition in our society. Many men are experience thinning of their hair at an early age. This usually results in a receding hairline. This hair loss problem will continue if left untreated.
Some men experience baldness at a very young age. In fact many begin to notice the changes to their receding hairline gradually when they are in their 20s.
Androgenetic alopecia accounts for 95% of all hair loss. In men this pattern of baldness usually begins with a receding hairline. Then it advances to the top of the head. Androgenetic Alopecia has it’s name because the hair loss is determined by male hormones (androgens) as well as other hereditary factors (genetic). Specifically, it is the male hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is converted from the testosterone hormone by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase that contributes to androgenetic alopecia in those who are genetically disposed to baldness.
Propecia has been clinically tested and is the only drug approved to treat hair loss. However, Propecia is a lower-dose version of a drug that shrinks prostates in middle-aged men.
Propecia requires a doctor’s prescription. This prescription drug has proven to be effective in growing and thickening hair. But its main focus is to keep the hair that is still on the scalp. This medication is best suited for men who still have enough hair to retain. But tests have shown that Propecia works for a receding hair line. Many men are using both the brand name version as well as the generic version of Propecia.
One of the negative side effects of this prescription drug is that it causes loss of libido and impotence. However, this effect is reversible when the drug is stopped. Another point we need to make is that this medication is not typically reimbursed by health care insurance providers.
Because of this Generic propecia has become very popular by men who are experiencing hair loss. Generic propecia has the same chemical composition as regular propecia, but the cost is significantly lower.
You should always consult with your doctor before taking any medication or beginning any medical treatment plan.
