Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes known. In fact there are millions of Americans that have been diagnosed with this illness.  Unfortunately many Americans are not aware that they are at risk for this illness.

Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic illness that requires long term medical care. Insulin is produced in the pancreas gland. It stimulates body cells to take up glucose from the blood and convert the glucose to glycogen.

The body cells convert the glycogen to glucose and use it when energy is needed. In this manner insulin maintains the glucose level in the blood at a normal level.

In Diabetes type 2, the cells in the body do not react properly to insulin. Therefore they do not take in enough glucose from the blood to store it or to use it as energy source.

This is commonly known as insulin resistance. The insulin production can increase or decrease in order to try to maintain the blood glucose at an adequate level.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF DIABETES TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS?

The exact causes of this illness are not known. Some researchers believe that there may be an autoimmune response to insulin. However it is generally accepted that our lifestyle plays contributes significantly to the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Causes.

In general we can consider three significant factors of our lifestyle that can contribute to Type 2 Diabetes:

  • We consume high amounts of fats and sugars.
  • We have become overweight
  • We don not exercise on a regular basis

Because Diabetes is the major cause of blindness in adults aged 20 to 70 tears old, we should take proactive care to ensure that we eat adequately and exercise regularly.

We can take positive steps to overcome this illness. we can begin a regular exercise program and we can certainly start eating a healthier diet.

You should always consult with your doctor before beginning any medical program or taking any prescription medications.
